I think 10 weeks is perfect. I got Missy at 7 weeks of age, and it was wayyyy too early, but I remember thinking around the 10 week mark that it would have been the right age to get her. I think 12 weeks is too late, they are just too independant and you miss out on all the puppy cuddles and important bonding. All just MY opinion of course!
