I live in South Mississippi, too, on the coast, and the fleas can be horrible. I treat the yard, not my dogs. I'm using Spectracide 'Once and Done' now. I've had pretty good luck with that. It doesn't work as long as the label says (up to 3 months) so I reapply every 6 weeks. Not sure how your house is, but if it's on piers the fleas will forever be under your house. If that's the case, you'll need to treat under the house as well. If you can find any camphor trees, leaves from that will help keep them away. They grow wild down here so it may not be hard for you to find some.
