The first couple of weeks are were really hard for my husband and me, but especially for my husband who has never had a dog in his life with the exception of in college when his roomates brought one for a couple weeks. Crate training did not work out for us. Genghis sleeps in a little doggy bed next to me, however sometime in the night he finds his way up to the foot of the bed. This is a recent development. I'm sure the next time I wake up in the middle of the night I'm going to find him on my face!
I saw it posted earlier, but the best advice I can give is to make the puppy sleepy! Run him around and around. Let him play with a neighbors dog. I have a nice dog park near by that gives him a real work out though Genghis was really shy the first month I brought him there. 11 weeks is pretty young (too young for the dog park) but it's important to get your puppy aquatinted with other dogs so he can learn what to do and what not to do.
