I am sitting here thinking what I would do. And, I would watch them and when they are out with the dog sometime, approach them and say that you have noticed how hard it seems for them to do whatever___________ fill in the blank. Then, offer to take the dog as a lover of dogs and ask if you can find the dog another home with a little old lady who only walks it to church on Sunday mornings. My joking is a way that I use to defuse situations and sometimes helps the other person defuse a little.
I am reminded of a woman in a check-out line during Xmas shopping a few years back. She looked more frazzled than anyone should. There was a screaming child in the cart and one pulling on her dress and screaming. People were giving her "that Look"-if they were mine they would not get by with that-you know the drill. I had read a way to deal with it so I tried-I walked up to the woman and said "scuse me" bless her, she spun around waiting for yet another onslought. I just said," It is really hard dealing with 2 kids and shopping. They look so tired and sleepy. Here, let me hold the little one in the cart and maybe the other one and I could go sit on that bench til you finish." That poor soul broke down in sobs--her husband was a fireman and had been killed in a recent fire. Everyone was around for a while and then they got on with their own lives.
I guess the point is that you might have a positive effect on the situation if you find out they really are ignorant, hate the dog, or are just uneducated about the care these babes need. Now, that is hard to imagine... |
