My beloved Fancy smiled. Not the opened mouth grin like some dogs, not a biting look grimace, but a full fledged teeth showing smile. Her eyes would crinkle and sparkle and she gave a most human smile. It wasn't just that she smiled, but when she smiled. I could just look at her and smile, then she would smile back. I would tell her that I loved her and she would smile. When she lost her eyesight at age 4, she began to smile less because she couldn't see us smiling at her. For a long time she would smile at me when I held her, talked to her and told her I loved her. At about 10 she quit smiling. I think she forgot how to do it because she didn't see the reinforcement of an exchanged smile. I miss her smile.
