The IV would be there just give fluids and he would have it in already if an emergency came up and they had to give drugs. Propofol can be given before the gas to put them under and it is generally pretty safe. You can always ask the vet just to mask down with the gas though. Then there are injectables that can be used before the gas. Some are good and some are not. It is not always in the dogs best interest to mask down with no premedication.
Thanks Ellie May! I know they know best, they're the Doggie Doc's. I'm going to let them do what they want, they'll do what's best for him. I never thought I could "LOVE" a dog so much, this is what parents must go through! And you sound like a Doggie Doctor" yourself. I tried to get ahold of my vet today just to ask himm the risk, but he was so busy, I was on hold to long already, as far as my boss was concerned. I'm going to try to relax about this, keep positive thoughts, and wish for the best. I don't want worse things to happen to him in the long run because "I" was afraid. He loves his life, his big "Sister" Muffin (65 lb Collie mix) and he's a tuffy! I constantly telll him to look in the mirror when he's growling at the big dogs! So...wish us luck on Good Friday, and if I'm forgetting to ask something, please let me know. Thank you, and Happy Easter everyone, silverbells.
