Use a good moisterising shampoo and conditioner and completely dry the hair, pick up the hair in 2 inch sections, comb the piece first and run the iron through the peice starting about 1/2 inch from the skin, if it leaves a beginning seam at the start point, you may have not pulled it through quick enough, I have been ironing mine for 4 years and the older two have very healthy coats..we use it about every 10 days only at shampoo time. It will last pretty much until next shampoo
What happened to your Chi? Was it the cord, did it just stop working?

Many Chi's have had shorts due to a problem with the wiring, some were recalled so see if yours was one of them. Mine stopped working just after the one year warranty was up. My hairdresser where I bought it was nice enough to take it back and talk to her chi rep who gave me a new one free of charge even after the warranty was up. It is totally worth the try.
