No idea where to start... Hello all,
From the beginning then... We got Jess from a rescue home almost 3 years ago now, she will be 5 this year. She is a very stocky yorkie, and weighed about 12lb when we got her, which believe it or not looked very thin on her. After a few months of healthy eating and good exercise she was about 13lb, which looked good, could just make out her ribs with fingers etc.
All has been good until last Thursday, I got home from work and my wife said Jess seemed unwell. She did not make any attempt to greet me like normal, and seemed to struggle to stand before flopping back down. We took her straight to the vet, who spent some time with her, before asking a colleague for a second opinion. In the time between the two examinations, Jess decided to relieve herself on the surgery floor, which turned out to be a good thing, as the stool was black, a sign of internal bleeding.
The vet prescribed various pills with a view to seeing how she was in 24 hours. Jess's stools have been fine since, back to normal, but she still is lacking any get up and go after the meds were finished. She is eating well, drinking well, alert, seems happy, but remains reluctant to move much or play, which is something she could not get enough of normally.
Normally after a bath, she will have a mad 10 minutes, today, she just let us dry her. We are taking her back to the vet tomorrow, but wondered if anyone has experienced anything like this? We think her abdomen looks swollen, and the vet did pay close attention to this, but there were no signs of discomfort or distress when they examined it.
We are very worried about our baby, any suggestions will be gratefully received.
We just tried getting the hoover out as she loves chasing it, and she seemed really stiff and slow getting to her feet.
Thanks.
