Welcome and congrats on your baby.
First of all, sorry, I'm not a big fan of crate training at all. I always used the xpen or a big cage that can also have a pee pad, food water, bed, etc in. A 2 1/2 mo old yorkie should never be left in a crate for more than 3 hours at a time(rule of thumb, 1 hour for each mo. the puppy is in age). I also never used the litter box. Mine have all been pee pad trained, and this way when they are in their cage and they have their pee pad down, they have always gone over to use it. The breeder I got my last biewer from had pee pads down in the puppy room, when i got my little girl at 5 1/2 mos, she was already about 85% house broken, and was totally housebroken within about 2 weeks later. I always let mine out in the morning and would let them run on my carpet in the family room(it's already ruined from pee anyway). when I would catch them smelling, I would take them right over to the pee pad and make them stay on it, then lots of praise when they would go and an occasional treat. If you catch them peeing or pooping on the floor, immediately I would say NO and would pick them up and take them over to the pee pad. This has been the only way I have trained for 11 years. I used to train outside until I had a dog get run over. 10 weeks old he's still just a little baby. Don't get too upset, he will pick it up |
