Lol, I scratch myself more than that! That sounds well within the normal range. Things to look for would be red skin where he's itching, as this means he doing it more than a couple of times a day. Also, check the paws, are the paws always wet, this too would indicate he's chewing on them too much. Hair loss around the irritated area is common also because they chew or scratch it out. Allergies are nonstop, and don't get better on their own. I know we tend to read a lot about the dogs that suffer from allergies, but millions of dogs have no problems with allergies, so a couple of scratches a day are fine, but you're wise to be on the lookout!
