I am so sorry to hear about your baby. My yorkie, Miko, also was diagnosed with a liver shunt...I was a complete basketcase, crying all the time and worried to death waiting for results...I would wake up every five minutes and check on him during the night afraid that he would have a seizure while I was sleeping. This went on for weeks. I must tell you though, that this only made Miko more depressed...These little ones can sense when something is wrong, and we have to be strong for them even though it's so hard to do. We made sure to give him extra attention and we cuddled with him all the time.
Anyway, his liver shunt was not found, but he's healthier than ever now...he's on a liver supplement (denosyl), lactulose, and royal canin veterinary hepatic diet. The vet told me that he will live a normal life aside from the daily medications...The only thing I care about is that he is healthy, and he is! It's wonderful
There is a whole lot more to this story and a lot more things that happened with Miko that I didn't post, but it would have made this post too long...Let me know if you want more details, and I'll post it.
Keep your chin up and be strong for your baby! We'll pray for you and your baby. If you need to talk, we're here for you.
