You may want to try looking into local training classes. We took our bloodhound to a class that our local park and rec offered and it was great. It was a basic class and they had all different ages of dogs in there as well as different obedient levels. Its a little harder to feel discouraged about your dog not laying down when you tell it to when there are four other dogs that won't do it either, so you don't seem to give up as easlily. Oh and the class was great for us because it made us practice with the dog during the week, we didn't want to look stupid at class so we did your homework.

I will say though we only had one small dog in the class so that may scare some people but he was the roughest out of the bunch and there were several medium sized dogs. Plus my 80+ lbs bloodhound loves our 4.5 lbs Reagan and is so gentle with her so size doesn't really mean anything.
