I think you have to know your own dog, Joey's not a gulper, he really chews his food, even green beans, he will sit there and chew and chew, it's so cute, but my son's dog is a gulper, and will swallow food without tasting it, he can't have bones or chew sticks of any size, because he will choke on them. So I would say if your dog is partly a gulper you might want to throw them away at the smaller sizes, but you might want to buy the larger sizes to avoid so much waste. You can also try putting the stick in a kong when it's on the short side.
