Welcome to YT!! Regarding the eye gunk, is it green/yellow? A greenish color could mean infection, kinda like pink eye. If not, then it sounds like normal eye drainage.
A warm damp washcloth, cotton ball, or swab daily is a great way of cleaning around the eyes.
