Awww Elaine. It sounds like you are being so very kind and patient with him. You are a true angel. Did you try giving him a small treat after cutting each nail? I used shreds of cheese for bribing Missy. After she seemed to relax a bit with the cutting, I would give a treat every 2-3 nails, then a treat after every foot. Now she just gets treats after they are all done. I think he'll come around for you. Especially when he started out fine. Maybe next time you can just do 1 or 2 paws rather then all 4 at once. That way he won't be overwhelmed. I am so afraid of cutting Missy's quick, so I just trim the tips of her nails every 1-2 weeks. For the last 5 months this has worked great for us.

Beans is so lucky that you found him. It sounds like he had a terrible past. You are showing him the life that he always deserved.
