It's very hard to stop them from picking things up, chewing, & swallowing. The vet told me that there's a type of muzzle that can be worn, but I haven't tried it.

When Gus was a pup, I let him enjoy playing in my yard. I realized that it was impossible to stop him from eating things off the ground. So, I let him. He ate twigs, leaves, dandelion flowers, wood chips, mulch, acorns, earth worms, squirrel droppings, etc. He was treated several times for worms & parasites. Antibiotics have harmful side effects. He has an undiagnosed problem with excessive thirst & frequent urination. I don't know if it was caused by something he ate from the ground or something else. Now I walk him in the yard on a leash, trying to avoid things on the ground, & give a tug if he tries to pick something up to chew & eat. This is really futile, as he finds things everywhere.

If you lived near me in NJ, I'd say no yard. However, TX yards may be "cleaner".
