Now that we know what's going on, it's easy to look back and see things 20/20. He has had a few episodes (like, 2) in the past where I would touch him and he would cry. Once was soon after I got him in November. Then on Monday he went to jump up on the couch and didn't make it.. he cried and ran off but was fine when we checked him over. On Tuesday night, he took a honkin' flyin' leap off the bed (tall). I came walking out of the bathroom and hubby was in bed trying to grab him and I tried to catch him but was about two foot to far away.
He has never limped, been paralyzed or acted like he hurt moments after until last night.. DH, my vet and the neuro are thinking he tweaked himself with the fall from the couch and jump off the bed. We are going to treat him as directed and we will keep him contained for the duration of Ranger's recovery, which should be 8 weeks.. Then for the REST OF HIS LIFE he will NOT be allowed to ever jump off/on anything. |
Great, it sounds like you are doing everything you can. I believe it is a good sign that his walking is normal. Those bed and couch jumps look harmless when they happen, and you think nothing of it at first, but I have had a broken leg, a broken paw, a perfect set of knees pop out of joint. This is a bad breed to love if you don't have the finances and emotional strength, the sure do get hurt a lot and have so many health issues. While I would never wish this on anyone, you are very lucky to have a vet in your family so that you can have top knotch care for this vulnerable breed. They can really try our patience, our hearts, and our emotions sometimes.
