It doesn't sound too bad, as all the cases I've ever heard the dog was paralyzed almost immediately after the injury, so possibly the steroid will be enough to heal him. I would definitely get a second opinion because these things are so funny and it might be something else. Is he walking ok? If so I wouldn't be too worried now. Poor little guy, the tiny ones get hurt so easily. |
I spoke with a neurologist on the phone. DH uses his power totally inappropriately sometimes, but I appreciate it. At this point, and given his background, he didn't feel it necessary to see him at right now.
Now that we know what's going on, it's easy to look back and see things 20/20. He has had a few episodes (like, 2) in the past where I would touch him and he would cry. Once was soon after I got him in November. Then on Monday he went to jump up on the couch and didn't make it.. he cried and ran off but was fine when we checked him over. On Tuesday night, he took a honkin' flyin' leap off the bed (tall). I came walking out of the bathroom and hubby was in bed trying to grab him and I tried to catch him but was about two foot to far away.
He has never limped, been paralyzed or acted like he hurt moments after until last night.. DH, my vet and the neuro are thinking he tweaked himself with the fall from the couch and jump off the bed. We are going to treat him as directed and we will keep him contained for the duration of Ranger's recovery, which should be 8 weeks.. Then for the REST OF HIS LIFE he will NOT be allowed to ever jump off/on anything.
