My parents boy Cole lost control of his back legs and would just collapse, they rushed him to the ER Vet, got examined, did xrays, got a steroid and pain and sent home with more steroids and pain meds and said rest. After a couple of days they took him for a visit to a Neuro Specialist. She couldn't find anything wrong, but said if it happens again to bring Cole to her. She said if it happens after hours, as long as he still has control of his front legs, that they can wait till the morning to bring him in.
Not sure if that helped, but I would say if he doesn't seem sooooo bad, that you can wait
