Since the male is experienced I would think that either he senses the female is not ready or he is physically not up to the task. With him being 6 years old could he possible have any health issues? Have you had him check for LP? Perhaps his knees hurt him when he is trying to breed her.

The only other thing I can think of is that the female is too rowdy for him and he may be unsure of her. I recommend you just sit on the floor or on a short stool and hold the female by her shoulders while the male mounts her. Make sure the hair is trimmed around the females vulva area so the hair does not interfere. If the male has long hair make sure his hair is not interfering.

Are you keeping the male and female separated except at the times you are trying to breed them? It is important to not let them stay together all the time. The male will tire himself out and eventually quit trying. I would let them try for 30 minutes and if no success separate them and try several hours later. It is still possible to get a successful breeding. I bred a female before on her 13 day and she had 4 puppies.

Please keep us posted.
