I don't think I would be very happy with my vet if this was his reasoning. Pain medications usually don't work that way; they just ease the pain. However, Joey did have this reaction to the pain meds, and with each successive dose he got more energetic, so after three doses we took him off, but this is an allergic reaction and not the common reaction, as most pain medications have a sedative effect. What made your vet think he would be running all over the house with a little pain medication? Unless the effect Joey had is more common than I realize? I know once we took him off the pain pains, Joey's vet said I could give him baby aspirin, but I can't remember the dosage. Glad he ate and drink water, he must be feeling a little better.
