Default Washable Pads and Smell

Right now I am using disposable pads. We don't accumulate much garbage so it usually only gets taken out once a week. I used to just throw Layla's pee pads in the regular trash but the kitchen would get so smelly! This winter I started just putting them in a bag out on the deck. It was too cold for them to smell out there!
Anyways, now spring is arriving again and I need to come up with a new plan. I want to switch to washable pee pads so I'm looking seriously into that. I was thinking I could get enough for a week and just wash them all weekly. So then I was thinking I could use a diaper bin so they wouldn't be too smelly throughout the week. I have no children so you could imagine my surprise when I looked up diaper bins and found them costing over $300
So any of you with washable pee pads, how do you keep them from smelling until laundry day???
