Show breeders bred hoping for show potential puppies...that does not mean every puppy actually has show quality as they grow. Sounds like this is the case with the dam...confirmation wise she wasn't able to be shown as she doesn't meet the standard of the breed. That is what makes them "pet quality".
Yes, there would be a difference in bloodlines....there are many highly desired lines in show yorkies.
I agree this is an excellent way to search for a new puppy.
