Omg Max & the Possum

Well - what a morning! We have a big deck that's built close to the ground, and there are a few spots where the dogs can get underneath it. This morning, Cheryl let Max out, and he went under the deck and wouldn't come out - just bark, bark, bark! She woke me up and I couldn't get him to come out either, so I got down on my stomach with a flashlight to see if I could see him. No Max, but there was a big old Possum right in the middle - and I really don't much like possums And we're in the middle of a good sized city too!

Evidently, Max was down past the possum and scared to come back by it to get out. So, I took a short board off, then realized it was in the wrong spot. So, I went back to look under the deck, and Cheryl started to follow, and stepped on the loose board that for some reason I laid back in the hole like a dummy! Her leg fell through the deck, and she fell sideways off of the deck (two short steps) with her leg still stuck through the hole - I thought for sure she'd broken it.

So - got her in a chair - asked the neighbor man to come over. He's taking out the screws in a long board so we can get the silly dog out - I went to go in the house to get the phone, and bam! there's Max - he must have gotten brave enough to go past the possum after all. Poor neighbor man only had 2 screws left to take out

So - got the dogs locked up in their crib and went to the emergency room (notice which came first dog then human! ) Not broken, just really bruised and pulled and super sore.

And after the fact, all of the openings under the deck are now barricaded off until my son gets home from Nevada and can finish the stupid thing right Should have done it long before now. And - I sure do hope the possum came out while we were at the ER - we couldn't see him anywhere underneath it when we got home.

To top the whole morning off, I had a message on my phone when I got home from work, asking me to come in tomorrow for a meeting - they are terminating 150 people and are having informational meetings about it. I have enough seniority that it won't get me, but a lot of friends will end up going, and that's a real bummer
