I had a similiar problem but I closed off an area where Tobi usually pee on the pad so now he has to pee on a pad and poop on the other. Its the best thing ever! Tobi use to roam around the house and go upstairs to potty but he would usually poop by the back bedroom door but closing off a small area limiting to 2 pads has really helped a lot. Even when I take the gate down he still go on the same 2 pads. So try that... I am also trying to take him outside to start potty training but its so hard...lol We will walk him and play and he will hold it until we get home and run up to his spot.
I saw this potty post (yellow) in Petsmart last week, where you put it in the ground and its suppose to help with potty training...but I'm not sure if it will work.

Good Luck!
