I love the pennies in the can, but it's not magic. You have to be more stubborn then they are. You shake it for every time they bark, you always have to have the last shake. The first time it may take 20-30 shakes. The next time 15, but you must always shake it one more time then they bark. If you don't, they win, and will bark longer next time. You don't yell, you can say, "no", you can say "shhh" you can say "Uh uh", but whatever you choose say that firsr and then shake the can. EVENTUALLY, just saying the words works, BUT it doesn't work overnight. I can now put my fingers to my lips in a shushing fashion and he will stop barking. You must always have the can in a ready to reach place. It must be loud enough to be annoying. I used a Christmas tin with a lid, because it's louder than a soda can. We live with a view of a park, and barking was a real problem. You have to be consistent. Dogs love to bark. Spaying works for some, but it didn't work for us because Joey could outrun me. For a while I kept three cans of pennies, so I would always be able to reach one fast. Remember, you are training him not to bark, and this takes time, and you will need to periodically get out the pennies and give him more training, but it does work, if you don't give up, and if you do it right. Never let them win even once, or you will pay for it next time. |
