Default Walking on three legs/limping

Yesterday morning Molly woke up limping. She sometimes walks on three legs. When I palpate her foot, knee joint, and hip joint, she shows no signs of withdrawal or pain. There is nothing festering in her foot. She's cautious, but still up and around and wanting to play. She doesn't appear ill in any way. My older Yorkie, Maggie, started limping several months ago and I ended up with a huge vet bill and advised to use chondroitin, which helped. Can I feel comfortable keeping an eye on Molly right now and give her chondroitin also? I know this makes it sound like I am not a loving responsible parent, but at the same time in this economy I don't know where I would get the money for another vet visit. Anything else in the possible diagnosis category that I should be aware of?
