Go out and buy an expen. Confine the pup to the expen when you can't watch it. Place pee pads in there if you are gone for more than an hour.
A puppy needs to go after sleeping, eating and playing. Be alert to what it does before it goes.
Feed the pup at the same time every day. This way you can time when it needs to go.
Will you be training it to potty inside or outside? If inside, use the pee pads in the expen and then gradually increase the size of the room while you minimize where it can go, in other words, make the pee pads less while you increase the area it is allowed to be in.
Always reward good behaviour - going on the right spot - and never punish bad behaviour, just ignore it.
