Remy was afraid of both the harness and lead when I put them on and attempted to "walk" him in the house. I initially thought that getting him acclimated inside would help with the transition to outside.

At least with him - it did not work. He would just lay down and cling to the floor, completely not moving.

Jack (hubby) suggested that we put the harness and lead on him, pick him up and carry him outside. Now, we live in the city so there is a lot of strange noise - car traffic, etc. For our first time we targeted a park that is across the street from our condo. We went in the middle of the day to a quiet area with few other people or animals around. Once we were outside and we put him down he was so interested to explore he forgot the harness and lead were connected to him. From that point we have not had any issue and as soon as he sees the harness he gets excited and ready to go!
