I did this with Gracie Ruth and Yogi, took them both as puppies everywhere I could.
However, you have to keep the trips short enough that there isn't a need to put them down to potty, because then you have the same issue of possible contamination as taking them for a walk.
I know it seems like forever and you are dieing to go and have fun with your baby, but it really isn't that long and it is a great time to take advantage of getting a strong bond with him before you head out into the big scary wonderful world.
