It is possible to leave mom at 8 weeks (if they are eating well on their own and weaned), but the recommendation is 10-12 weeks. I got my yorkie a few years ago at 8 weeks. She adjusted fine but I didn't know she would have had more social skills and was taught more my mom and litter mates is she had stayed longer with them. When I sell my litter I will be waiting the full 10-12 weeks to give them the best chance of well-rounded-ness that I can. I think the idea has to do with the size of this breed and the extra time needed for small breeds in general, they are a lot more fragile than a lab or other large puppy would be.
