Default size determined by genes or food?

so i just got back from walking my older pup, kenji. i met this lady who was walking her yorkie as well. she asked what kind of dog kenji was and i told her he was a yorkie. she didn't believe he was a yorkie because he was so big. i started thinking about all the YT members who experienced this kind of encounter

anyways, she asked me why is he so big (kenji is 12 lbs btw). i told her it was just in his genes. she asked how many times i fed him and i said twice a day. this lady just couldn't get over his size. she then told me that he's big because i was feeding him too much. then she asked me what kind of food i was feeding him. i started to get a little annoyed because i just wanted to continue our walk so that kenji can go potty and i could make it back home in time to catch american idol.

can anyone back me up here and tell me that i'm right when i said my yorkie is big because it's in his genes? it's got nothing to do with the food i'm feeding (orijen puppy food) or the amount i'm feeding him (1/3 cup twice a day)--right? i mean--you can't force a puppy to grow bigger by what and how much you're feeding---right? when i say "big" i mean long legs and long body, not necessarily fat, because that is exactly how my pup is.
