Ella and Jack are both pad-trained, and although they had mistakes, they know to only go on the pad (not all over the house). I understand that some people believe teaching them to go inside, even on pads, is a bad idea, but it works for us.
To help them get used to the pads, we would wait til they had gone to the bathroom and then dab some of their pee on the pad. That helps attract them to the pads. We also put them on their pads every couple of hours or when they started to sniff around. When they do go on the pad, it's like a party with praise and treats.
One potential side effect: our dogs are very good about going to their pads, but I'm pretty sure they pee for treats. Ella will go over and "fake pee" by squatting over the pad and then looking at me with her puppy eyes for a treat. But I'd rather deal with that then having accidents everywhere. |
