This is one smart boy, so you should be able to quickly train him to come on command. The easiest way for me was to put Chloe on her leash and back away from her. Then, told her to come, with a gentle pull on the leash and a treat. Continue to back further away until you can discontinue the leash, say the command and your dog will come to you. I use slice, peeled apple for training treats. When there are times Chloe just knows what is going to happen and doesn't want to come, she'l heel down and look up at me with those big eyes. I taught her to stay when she's down, so then when I just have to get her, she doesn't run away. To do that, when your dog is sitting, put your treat in your hand and put it on the floor, with the command, down.
