Max is almost a year old and has really had a tough three months. Prior to this time, he was a typical Yorkie, running all over, chasing his mom and my 13 yr English Cocker Spaniel. He was constantly jumping on furniture having a blast. On December 28th, he was standing on the back of the couch and his mom nudged him and he fell and broke his front leg. Off to the Vet we went and they set the leg and put a cast on. I brought him home and he acted like nothing was wrong, running and jumping. On the 30th, he had gotten on my bed and jumped down and broke his other front leg. Off to the vet for another cast. This one finally slowed him down. Had problems with getting him to eat so I fed him baby food mixed with rice. His weight went up and down (he only weighs 3 pounds). Each week we were at the vet to have his bandages changed. He developed gangerine in one leg and lost two toes. As of today, his legs have still not healed. It seemed that everytime the vet changed his bandages the legs were never healed. I took him to another vet last week after his normal vet told me that they couldn't do anything more. Apparently his leg bones are too tiny to have a pin put in them. The new vet removed his bandages so all the sores on his legs could heal. He said that that the best bet would be to have four pins put in the side of each leg, two above and two below the break, and put an appliance on the leg to see if the breaks can heal. Has anyone had any experience with broken legs not healing?
