This is an infectious disease caused by a spiral shaped bacteria called Campylobacter. It infects humans as well as animals. All the symptoms that your dog has, are symptoms of this disease. The most common form of transference is through chicken. Most chickens carry this disease, and never show any signs of illness. However, when you get this infected chicken home, that is where the damage can occur. The touching of raw products, and then cross-contaminating other food items will tranfer the disease. Undercooked chicken as well will transfer. If you mom lives near a wild stream or river keep your baby from drinking there, as wild birds are also known carriers. Most of the time this disease in humans will clear up on its own, however, your babies immune system is not strong enough for that. I would keep her on the antibiotics for as long as the vet says so. Because there is a small chance that if you do not get it healed now, it can transfer into the blood stream and that is Not a good thing. Best of luck , and keep us posted as to how she is doing! |
