 Follow up on liver shunt surgery
I just got back from Joey's follow-up visit to the vet for his liver shunt surgery. The vet we saw today said Joey's shunt was 90% closed, that they never can be completely closed, even though that is what the original vet told me. Is this any cause for concern? Also, they added metranidazole, which was very expensive and you need a refill every month because it expires so quickly. I wonder if he must be on this. He is already taking lactulose and she said he will always be on the special diet. He also didn't gain any weight which they weren't thrilled about, even though he's eating. I feel like this will never end. In three months, they will repeat the bloodwork and check for bladder stones. I guess he will never be a "normal" Yorkie. Just a little depressed. |
