Also, with Kirby, it was pressing on the spinal cord and sudden movement could cause it to break through. Kirby also had a bump on his back where the problem was and it was hard to see on the X-ray. Our vet had us keep Kirby in a cat crate so there wasn't room to move around. Of course, we would take him out and sit with us quite often and that was fine. Just so he isn't allowed to move around. We were told to carry him outside...once he went potty, pick him up and carry him back in. It was a long recovery and a few times we thought we were going to lose him. I think it was about 7 or 8 weeks. He was partially paralyzed in his back legs. He lost muscle mass during that time and I didn't see how he could ever overcome all of that, but he has. His walk is still a bit different...seems to hold his back legs closer together...but he DID recover and I will be praying that little darling Cole recovers and heals quickly. I am not saying what Cole has is what Kirby had, but it just sounds so similar. The meds you mentioned are what Kirby was on also. Hugs to you, your parents...and lots of kisses and get well wishes to Cole. I'll be checking back for updates. |
Thank you Connie ~ I remember about Kirby and was going to contact you today. I am so happy that Kirby got better!
Little Cole was better at the ER as time went by, he can still walk, etc. Th ER DR. gave him a steroid shot and a pain shot, so as soon as they got home, they put Cole on the pad and he poop ~ He actually did pee at the Vet (on the room floor - heeheehee).
They are getting a crate for him and will contain him, except for Potty. You are right about the Prednisone bc Cole is acting fine now, but they are still going to keep this routine as they aren't sure what is happening. Last night Cole had direaha, so my Dad looked up "collapsing dog" online and he read that could happen from toxic bacteria inside him, but we can't be sure and have to treat this has a Disc issue.
Thank you....I will update later
