We don't let our dog sleep in bed with us, but when our cat was a kitten she used to love to curl up under the covers in between my husband and I. I don't think breathing is a problem. They kinda make themselves a cave. Plus depending on what fabric your cover is made of it should be porous enough to let air throuhg.
