I would try first exercising the heck out of him so he has less energy to put into barking. Second, pennies in a can worked wonders on Thor. I used it maybe a dozen times, and he pretty much never barked indoors again. He'll do a little growl, which I think is fine, but no piercing, over the top sounds. I used to always "shush" him, and it seemed like he suddenly figured out that oh, when she shushes, she means QUIET, not BARK MORE.
I think a small muzzle is a great idea. You can also use this as a training device. The first time he barks outside, you put it on. He'll probably realize pretty quick that if he stays quiet, no muzzle. |
