The only thing about putting them in a kennel for long periods of time is that it helps you with toilet training. Keep in mind that you don't start a new puppy to stay in a kennel all day. You start at a small time and work your way to longer and longer times. If your kennel is set up correctly it will teach them to hold their bladders longer until they can be taken outside. We did this with Reuger when he was little and he is completely housebroken. He has free reign in the the house when we leave for long periods now. Actually they can feel very secure in a kennel as opposed to an open room. Everybody has their own way of doing things though so do what is right for you.
