All yorkies are different and their coats change at different times. Some very early. Mine is almost 10 months and still have 99% black on her coat and just a little steel gray on her the tops of her legs but her stomach has more of the gray coming though. Just like yours she has more of the silky texture on her head but her coat is more of the cottony/wooly type. A good shampoo and conditioner is a must and the CC Systems works well for me. I will post a picture of her when I get home from work and you will be able to see her coat has a slight wave pattern to it. One things that has amazed me is how fast it grows. I have gotten it cut/shaved several times and it grows back so fast. I think I would go with what is easier for you when it comes to grooming because it can be work. Hope that helps.
