I agree.
Ellie's gets them but I have found that using a drying solution everytime they get wet is very important. It seems that this helps a lot.
I don't pluck the hair but probably should.
When Ellie does get an infection we use Otomax.
For drying and cleaning we use Chlorhexiderm Flush.
