Animal Smiley 019 If you have two girls...

... and each one wants to be # 1?

I have one girl Jessica (5 yo) who is way too spoiled. We raise her more like a child, although she is dog. She always with us, we have established family rules and she knows everything. We always plan our trips around our dog.
She is not only spoiled, but jealous also because she knows she is so special (snoby too).

Anyway, as I wrote before, recently we adopted another girl, Polly. Her exact age is not known, I was told she is appx. 3 yo, but, personally, I believe she is much younger. I wanted dog similar age like my Jess, so was thinking 3 yo is OK.

When I saw Polly in shelter, she looked very submissive and timid to me (that what I was looking for), but it turned she is not really. I cannot say she is alpha dog, but definitely more protective that Jess. She has taken over all Jessica's favorite places to sleep, and Jess, as typical "mommy girl" just whining and shows to me if something wrong/asks me to fix that problem.

Polly follows me every second while Jessica is just laying down offended somewhere...

Polly has copied everything what Jessica does to get my attention.

Examples:
Jessica sleeps on pillow on my head, Polly will come and just lay down next, then Jess will move.
Polly has occupated Jessica small dog house (next to my chair), Jessica goes away and whining because she doesn't have any place to sleep close to me. I put Jessica inside the dog house to show "this is YOUR place, don't be afraid", Polly immediately jumps inside and blocks Jessica, and Jessica is afraid to go out.

I try to do my best, do not let any of them to be pushy, however, every time I push Polly away saying "This is Jessica place, you stay here", she looks SO offended.... something like "Why is OK for her, but not for me?!"

Actually, Polly wants to be Jessica's friend, but Jessica just ignors her and even afraid. Polly has tried to play with her, and Jess is afraid of Polly moving toward her. Polly plays like a puppy, and Jess doesn't like puppies.
So play didn't work between them.

Polly wants to be part of our family, she is very good girl, quick learner, but what I've seen so far... I got one more "mommy girl", but not a friend for Jessica, how I was hoping.
If I leave house for a little bit and come back, I see that they do not stay together at all. They run to me from different rooms. They just ignore each other, especially Jessica, and all what they need is MY attention.

So I have a question for those who have been in similar situation:

New dog and older very spoiled one.....
New wants to play, old doesn't care....
New wants to be # 1 and old one already # 1.....

Any of you who have two dogs who are not really friends?

How you handle it?

I do understand that it is so little time from recent adoption (appx 2 weeks), but I already can see some signs....

I hope they will be friends....
Do you think it is possible? If not, how you handle it? Or, it is not even a problem to worry about?

Thanks in advance

PS: Of course, I am not complaining, I just have never been in situation like that, so really interested about other people experiences.
