I can imagine being upset. I do want to let you know that a lot of vets do not check for LP. It is very common in Yorkies and other small breeds, such as the Boston Terriers, Toy Poodles and a few more. There are like 5 different levels of LP with being born with it the least severe. Do not assume you need surgery. Your Mom's new pup may never experience problems with her pup's LP at all . LP is more of a problem when caused by an injury. Actually the things you need to watch out for are all of the things you need to be cuatious of anyway....jumping off furniture and things like that. Her pup may develop arthritis when it gets older....Yorkies without LP are at the same risk. I would recommend not having the surgery unless it is causing the pup pain. I'm not downplaying it, I just want you to know that you don't need to panic just yet and that hopefully it will never be a problem. Call a few more vets, tell them the breed, the pup's age, and see what they say...you may feel a little better afterward.
