You need to establish yourself as the alpha leader. Does he know any basic commands, such as sit, stay, come, down? Those are good things for a dog to know so he knows what you want him to do.

Him walking in front of you on the leash makes him think HE is in control. And it shouldn't be that way, he should walk nicely behind you/beside you, NOT in front of you. The minute he pulls, just stop walking. Stay in place until he is no longer pulling. He will then understand that in order to move forward, he must not pull. It will take a lot of time and patience but you can do it! Here's a good link.

Find a yummy treat that he absolutely loves. When he does what you want him to do, give it to him.
