When I brought Meg home, I made a little box wall to hold her in. I live in Korea and I've never been able to find an Xpen here! The box wall totally did the trick though. It was around 6" diameter, and her crate (with door open) was part of the wall. She had a pee pad there as well as water, food, and toys.

I'd try to stick to just paper training for now if I were you. I paper trained Meg, then once it was warm enough I started taking her outside. She was around 4 mo old when we started going outside. She does fine with both now.

Also, do yourself a favor and get a frame/border for the pee pads. Meg kept peeing off the side of hers and the bottom of it would get soaked. Talk about a mess to clean up.
