This is what I do:
I dab the area with alcohol.
Clean a pair of tweezers tips with alcohol.
Grip the tick as close to the head (pups skin) as possible and gently but firmly pull out the tick.
If I missed parts and they are still sticking out I put on alcohol ad try to get them with the tweezers.
After I clean the area with more alcohol (I squeeze the cotton ball) and then pay it dry & then put on Neosporin (3x antibiotic ointment).
If part of the head is stuck usually the next day there is a scab and I pull that off with the again alcoholed tweezers and the tick parts come with it (usually).
Put on the alcohol and ointment again.
I keep alcohol and ointment on it for a few days.
