| Did a thesis paper on Erlichia last year. Its another tick-borne illness. Since it is bacterial, they will treat it with antibiotics, and have had a great deal of success in treating humans. Anaplasmosis , broken down into medical terminology means: An- without, or negative, plasma- is of course the fluid part of the blood that holds particulates, and osis - is the condition or status there of.
The platelets are also called Thrombocytes, and are the smallest formed elements of the blood. Not classified as cells but are fragments of specialized large bone marrow cells known as Megakaryocytes. In its simpliest, their role is in the clotting of the blood. That is why bleeding is a major factor in this disease. If the Thrmobocytes have been attacked bacterialogically, and their numbers reduced, then clotting becomes decreased, hense the bleeding.
Having her blood tested to find out if infection has happened is the most important thing, and you have done that. If she is positive they probably will continue the antibiotic regime with earnest. And like I said, the humans who have contracted this disease, are also being treated with the same medical plan. Best of luck.
Hope this helps some!
