I followed Cesar Milan's training on this with Harley as thats what he would ALWAYS do when he was a youngster. Then he thought it was great fun to have me chase him up and down the block. lol
I started with a leash and every time we opened the door..I'd halt him...and say CCCCHHH! (the sound Cesar makes) and make him sit.stay. over and over and over some more...THEN I started with going through the door first (Cesar says never let them lead you through the door)...making him sit stay UNTIL I said ok..come. He's 5 yrs old and survived a few near misses in traffic...but never bolts for the door any more and waits at the threshold for me to say COME before he will go through the door.
(Well unless its the mailman,,then theres no holds barred. LOL)
